MotionQL
MotionQL vs Compass

Love Compass? Meet what comes next.

Keep the clean, fast feel of Compass and add the tools you've been missing: SQL queries, Compare & Sync, Excel and BSON import/export, masking, scheduled tasks, ER diagrams and dashboards.

Why people switch from Compass

SQL, when you think in SQL

Write SELECT with joins and GROUP BY; MotionQL translates it into a find or aggregation you can keep.

Compare and sync collections

Field-level diffs, a dry-run preview, and selective sync between any two collections or clusters.

More formats

Excel, BSON, SQL INSERT and mongodump archives, with column mapping and upserts.

Automate the boring parts

Scheduled exports, syncs, dumps and scripts that run even while the app is closed.

Any AI provider

Use your own key or a local model, instead of a single hosted service.

Guardrails for production

Read-only connections enforced in the app, a prod banner, typed-name drop confirmation and a local audit log.

Measured, not claimed

Faster than Compass on every step we timed

Up to 7.6 times faster, with the same queries on the same data and server, timed from the click to the result on screen.

Measured October 6, 2026 on a MacBook Air (M1), macOS 15.6. Local MongoDB 5.0, the same server and data for both apps. MotionQL 1.2.1, MongoDB Compass 1.51.0. Each app maximized, table view, 50 documents per page. A script clicks or types for each step and times the screen from that input to the final result, accurate to one display frame. 10 runs per step in each of two rounds; the chart shows the median. Your numbers will differ with your hardware, server and data.
